At First Parish, you have the opportunity to begin your marriage in our beautiful and historic sanctuary, with dramatic stained glass windows and a supreme organ. Our large sanctuary seats over 400 people and has excellent acoustics. Its famous Hook Organ, installed in 1864, is renowned in New England. In addition to the wedding ceremony itself, the church’s Elizabeth Hall is a convenient site for a rehearsal dinner or reception on the premises. Many couples choose to have photographs taken outside on scenic Church Green.
The Service In the Unitarian Universalist tradition, there is a great deal of flexibility in planning wedding ceremonies. Rev. Christana Wille McKnight will be happy to meet with you to create a wedding ceremony that will be memorable and meaningful to you and your spouse. Should Christana be unavailable, we are able to provide a list of other available ministers. You are also welcome to work with a minister or other religious professional of your choice. If you are not familiar with Unitarian Universalism, please review our Theology page to be certain that our principles and beliefs are consistent with what you wish for your occasion. Our minister may provide a non-denominational or Christian service, if desired, but cannot provide a service that is actively inconsistent with UU principles.
Music Our Music Director, Kaeza Fearn customarily provides music for wedding ceremonies at the church. Couples meet with Kaeza in advance to plan the musical part of the ceremony. You may invite outside musicians to participate in your wedding ceremony, with the understanding that no one is permitted to play the organ or pianos at First Parish Church without the express permission of our Music Director.
